The human eye may have a major role to play in both the spread and prevention of the COVID-19 Pandemic that currently brings the globe to a lockdown.

An eye doctor at a University in Peking has stated that he may have contracted the virus from infected patients while he didn’t make use of eye protection gear.

This may be unlikely, however, one cant outrightly states that the possibility is negligible.

Cutting out the personal risk of getting infected with the virus.

one should for now quite touching the nose, mouth and eye, especially with unwashed hands.

The virus gets easily transmitted as it survives in our body mucous membrane.

Mucous is readily found in our body cavities open to the entry of the virus.

Patients who are infected with COVID-19 may show ocular symptoms ranging from conjunctivitis.

Conjunctivitis is an eye ailment that makes the covering of the eyeball appear inflamed.

It can also be referred to as the “pink eye.”

Conjunctivitis in its viral state has been confirmed to show respiratory infections such as flu and colds.

These are very strong indications of the COVID-19 virus.

In a publication by the New England Journal of Medicine, it was found that “conjunctival congestion” in 9 out of more than 1000 patients got diagonised of coronavirus.

However, another study recorded in The Journal of Medical Virology, out of the 30 patients that got infected with Coronavirus, only one of them got diagnosed with conjunctivitis.

From these indications, we may likely infer that the occurrence of conjunctivitis in coronavirus patients is low.
