In March, we are creating awareness about Workplace Eye Wellness. We are sensitizing workers and employers on steps to protect their eyes at work and we are also celebrating World Glaucoma Week from March 10th-16th 2024.
For people to be productive at work, having a healthy vision is essential. In recent times, there has been an increase in the use of computers for prolonged hours by office workers. This has some adverse effects not only on the eyes but also on the body. Some of the symptoms computer users experience are stinging/gritty/foreign body sensations, blurry vision, headache, eye pain, and tearing. Factory workers in other places might be exposed to chemicals, radiation, particles, or other flying objects and necessary precautionary measures should be taken to prevent accidents. It is also important to identify potential dangers, educate employees on these dangers, and take steps to keep workers safe.
Some tips to protect your eyes at work are:
1. Practice the 20-20-20 rule. Take your eyes off your screen for 20 seconds after looking at the screen for 20 minutes at something 20 feet afar.
2. Ensure the lighting in the office is adequate.
3. Blink regularly to reduce symptoms of dry eye.
4. Wear anti-reflective lenses to reduce glare.
5. Wear appropriate eye protection equipment such as safety glasses with eye shields, face shields, or goggles when working to prevent accidents.
6. Ensure your eye protection equipment are in good condition and make sure they are replaced as soon as they are damaged.
7. Before starting work, ensure the workplace is free from hazards and other objects that might harm you during work.
8. In cases of emergency, administer first aid if you know how to, and visit the nearest eye clinic as soon as possible. Do not attempt to remove any objects lodged in the eye.
Glaucoma is a silent threat to vision. During World Glaucoma Week we raise awareness about glaucoma, reiterate the need to check one’s eyes regularly and the importance of early diagnosis. To celebrate this year’s World Glaucoma Week, we will give a 20% discount on all our glaucoma screening tests. There will also be free eye screening in all three branches that week.
